*ZAMBIAN CIVIL SOCIETY AND FAITH LEADERS APPEAL FOR HUMANITARIAN TREATMENT AND DUE PROCESS GROUNDED IN UBUNTU*
*Lusaka, Zambia* — On Tuesday, 21 July 2026, Zambian civil society and faith communities will gather at Protea Hotel Marriott Lusaka for a press conference titled _“Ubuntu: A Call for Universal Human Rights, Due Process, and Human Dignity.”_
Organized by *Global Peace and Civic Solidarity (GPCS)*, the event is guided by the African philosophy of _Ubuntu_ — “I am because we are.” The gathering affirms solidarity across borders and calls for the humanitarian application of justice.
The press conference is not intended to debate guilt or innocence. Instead, GPCS and its partners are formally appealing for *non-custodial investigation* — investigation conducted while an individual remains in a state of freedom — and the full respect of due process. The appeal specifically concerns *Chairman Man Hee Lee, 95*, who organizers note has serious health conditions.
Objectives
1. *Humanitarian Plea*: Request humanitarian treatment that considers the age and health of an elderly individual, in line with fundamental principles of criminal justice.
2. *Spreading Universal Values*: Emphasize Ubuntu, human rights, and human dignity as shared global values.
3. *Peaceful Communication*: Advocate for necessary humanitarian care within existing judicial frameworks, with respect for the rule of law.
